Africa Bitcoin Conference takes place from December 2–5 in Blantyre, Malawi.

The event brings together Bitcoin educators, developers, founders, investors, activists, community organizers, and freedom-tech participants working across Africa and the global Bitcoin ecosystem. The program focuses on Bitcoin’s role in financial autonomy, economic resilience, privacy, open technology, and sovereignty.

The conference is built around discussions on how Bitcoin can support communities facing monetary instability, limited access to financial infrastructure, surveillance, censorship, and dependence on centralized institutions. Its focus is not only technical, but also social and economic, with sessions exploring Bitcoin as a tool for individual freedom, entrepreneurship, open-source development, and long-term adoption across the continent.

Program focus

Africa Bitcoin Conference includes conference sessions, workshops, startup meetups, speaker programming, and networking across several days.

The event is designed to connect builders and decision-makers working on Bitcoin adoption in practical African contexts. Topics include Bitcoin education, financial inclusion, privacy, open-source development, developer support, startup building, community growth, and the role of Bitcoin in strengthening economic independence.

The conference also invites organizations and ecosystem leaders to host panels, workshops, or side events within the wider program. These sessions are independently managed by their hosts while being integrated into the conference program.

Speakers and ecosystem

The speaker program for the new edition is still being built. The conference has opened applications for speakers interested in contributing to discussions on Bitcoin’s role in Africa’s financial future.

Previous speakers featured by Africa Bitcoin Conference include Alex Gladstein from Human Rights Foundation, Lorraine Marcel from Bitcoin Dada, Abubakar Nur Khalil from Btrust, Femi Longe from Human Rights Foundation, Jodom Konuko from Bitsacco, Amiti Uttarwar from Waye, William Casarin from Damus, and Megasley from Africa Free Routing.

The organization behind the event describes itself as a collective of Africans working to promote Bitcoin adoption across the continent. Its work also includes initiatives such as the AfroBitcoin Fellowship, developer support, hackathons, startup connections, education, and community programs.
